Tips and Tricks

If this is your first time working with soft air dry clay, we highly recommend reading our Essential Clay Tips guide to learn the ins and outs of working with soft air dry clay.

  • Step 1

Start by shaping a piece of white clay into an egg shape to form the cow’s body.

Tip: stretch and knead the clay to remove wrinkles and air bubbles.
  • Step 2

Add the spots of the cow with black clay by flattening small pieces of clay and pressing it onto the cow.

  • Step 3

Take white clay and black clay, and shape them into two teardrop forms for the cow's ears. Attach to the top of the cow’s head.

  • Step 4

Shape two small teardrop horns from brown clay, attach them to the top of the cow’s head just behind the ears, and then gently curve them inward.

  • Step 5

Roll two tiny balls of black clay and attach them to the front of the cow’s head to create the eyes.

  • Step 6

Using light pink clay, shape an oval disc for the cow's nose. Use the toothpick tool to create two small indents for the nostrils, then attach the nose to the front of the cow's body.

And that’s it! The clay will air dry at room temperature for about 2-4 days, and will last as long as you don’t get it wet!
